Instead of helping people when they are in need and pain, prescription drug company’s main focus is to make as much of a profit as they can. They have even gone to the extreme as to come up with new diseases to make even more money for themselves. They are now targeting our children more than ever before. They know if they start early they will be hooked on it for the rest of their lives. But so far scientists know little about the long term affects of using these powerful drugs in children.
Drug companies have gotten doctors to go along with them by giving the doctors gifts and bribes so they will write more prescriptions to their patients. They have combined two different pills and given it a new name then the doctors will prescribe this new pill so the patients will have no choice but to pay the higher price. The older drugs patients are on could be working perfectly fine, but the doctors feel pressure from the drug companies so they prescribe the newer pills. Another way to make money is if a patient is prescribed a medication there will be side effects. If the patient complains, the doctor will just prescribe another medication to relieve the side effects. It is estimated that the nation may now pay as much to care for patients who were harmed by their prescriptions as it spends on those medicines in the first place. Is what they are doing ethical?

I totaly agree with you. I know several people that are on different kinds of medicines that it is crazy. Taking meds for diseases that I have not heard of is nuts. If a doctor told me that I have a certain kind of disease and I need medicine I would research that disease first before I agree on getting the prescription.
ReplyDeleteMy brother works for a company that manufactures medicine, and I have a different outlook. Yes, they are looking for ways to make money, but it's the government's fault! After a company has spent years researching, developing and testing a drug, they only have 5 years after it is approved by the FDA to recoup their losses. After this time, they are forced to reveal their formula. What happens then is competitors take that exact formula and manufacture it at a much lower cost, because they did not develop it.

They do nothing for the real problem but prescribe more drugs so the working people have to pay for them in turn making big drug makers filthy rich. The bad part about it is the people who can do something about it won't because they are wealthy enough to pay the prices, but what about us?
ReplyDeleteI really shock when I see your article. My aunty is a doctor and she had said that nearly all of the doctors in her hospital will prescribe a drug to patients. Actually this drug is just some simple protein and has no effect on people, but doctor will get much kickback from this drug company. I think it’s OK because it won’t hurt us just cost some money. But I never thought the drug companies will hurt people’s health just for their profit. It’s really unacceptable and where is the government? People’s life is the most important. I hope government could make law to prohibit it.
ReplyDeletewhether or not they prescribe these drugs or not the doctor is not forcing you to take them, nor to buy them. it is your choice in the matter and because of that the only person to blame for what goes in and out of your system is you. you have to also see that they call this a practice not a profession. there is no way that one pill can cure everything without side effects. not to mention the body at some point will start rejecting the "foreign" pill and no positive results will occur. this is why we change pills so often, so that our bodies do not become immune to the effects. the same concept can be seen in agriculture. they
ReplyDeleteIt is so sad that people have come to depend on drugs to make life more bearable, but I do blame both the drug company and doctors. I believe the two works together in this matter. The doctors a lot of times receive some kick backs from drug companies for prescribing some drugs. I know this for a fact, because I worked for a popular restaurant and we would delivery large quantities of food to doctors’ offices for drug companies. You can’t tell me that isn’t a perk for prescribing there drugs.
